Investing in people to create a safer, fairer, and more inclusive seafood industry.
Connecting women across seafood to strengthen networks, showcase leadership, and build a future-ready industry. The Weaving Connections program will engage WISA members across Australia in building strong networks that increase the visibility of women’s leadership, capacity, and contributions throughout the seafood supply chain. Through in-person and online activities, participants will foster collaboration with seafood businesses and organisations, strengthening the industry by sharing knowledge, building partnerships, and driving innovation. The program will also support the establishment of regional branches and provide tools and guidance to host place-based networking events, alongside building an online community that enables interest-based collaboration across geographical locations. text to go here
Developing a framework that helps the seafood industry attract, support, and sustain an innovative, resilient workforce that reflects our communities and builds trust. Is a program that combines desktop research and data analysis to explore the cultural contexts, enablers, and barriers shaping workforce development in the Australian seafood industry. This work will deliver a comprehensive report examining systemic and cultural factors and identifying pathways to strengthen the industry’s ability to attract and sustain a workforce that is innovative, resilient, and future-focused. Drawing on insights from Turn the Tide and best-practice evidence, we will also develop a strategic framework to support the creation of a workforce that reflects the diversity of our communities, builds community trust, and strengthens the industry’s social licence.
Starting conversations that make seafood workplaces safer, fairer, and more inclusive. Conversations that Count is a communication training program designed to build collective awareness of gender bias in seafood and empower women to spark dialogue that fosters safer, more equitable workplaces across the sector. Through a series of five online workshops, participants will build a shared understanding of workplace culture challenges and opportunities, while developing practical communication skills to initiate conversations on gender and inclusion. By equipping individuals to champion inclusivity, the program not only supports women but also strengthens the industry’s ability to cultivate innovative, resilient workplaces. In doing so, Conversations that Count helps position the seafood sector as an industry that reflects community values, builds trust, and enhances its long-term social licence.
