Seafood Women’s Wellbeing Series

Women in Seafood Australasia and Stay Afloat have been in partnership since the inception of the mental health program for the industry. In partnership, we are delighted to announce the Seafood Women’s Wellbeing Series.

We are delivering online and in-person workshops free of cost around Australia to WISA members and the broader seafood industry focussing on tools for managing stress and navigating burn out. We will also be delivering a bespoke online Mental Health First Aid for women in the seafood industry.

Hand me the Oxygen Mask Workshop

This highly engaging and interactive 1.5hr session helps participants understand the importance of first looking after ourselves in order to help others. The session will cover:

  • The realities of Mental Health and Mental Illness in Australia and our industry
  • The practical realities of stress > what’s really going on?
  • Understanding our own signs and symptoms of stress
  • The Stairway of Stress – your handy stress tool
  • Prevention is better than cure – the power of positive habits
  • Burnout – what is it? How do we navigate it?
  • And some special extra tools to help you along the way

Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how stress works in our bodies and a toolkit of ways to help their own wellbeing. Delivered by Jo Marshall – from Stay Afloat, you can be sure that the content will be delivered in a way that makes sense to those of us in the Seafood Industry.

The first of the series will commence free of cost online in October 2024. We will also deliver the workshop in person around Australia from early 2025.

Seafood Women’s Mental Health First Aid training

Approximately 1-in-5 Australian adults experience a common mental illness each year. Understanding how to talk about mental health and how to help someone in need are important skills. Many of us feel uncomfortable and unprepared when we think about starting a conversation with someone we are concerned about.

Jo Marshall from Stay Afloat, will deliver the accredited Mental Health First Aid course bespoke for women in the seafood industry.

You will learn how to recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health problems and learn the skills to feel confident and able to help. Having mental health first aid skills means that you can assist someone developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis and make a real difference to your community.

This Stay Afloat Program accredited 2 day online Mental Health First Aid course is available for FREE to all women in the commercial seafood community, including adult family members and friends. Stay Afloat have worked hard to ensure the language and examples used in the course are relevant to the seafood industry and understand the needs of seafood women.
